It's actually a whole lot easier than some people have led you to believe! The first thing you need to consider is the amount of time and effort spent tracking down the information you're looking for. Your leisure time is important. The last thing you want to do is waste it in front of a computer trawling through thousands of pages trying to find some useable information.

Doesn't it make a lot more sense to skip the learning curve? Why hundreds of sit-ups won't flatten your stomach. You could do 300 sit-ups a day and be no nearer to a washboard stomach than you are today.
